Admission
Policy
Gonzaga offers graduate and doctoral studies that span across our 6 college and schools. Decisions on admission to graduate and doctoral studies are made by the respective faculty after an evaluation of an applicant’s academic achievement, scholastic aptitude and other characteristics which may predict success when enrolled. Undergraduate grades and cumulative grade point average, letters of recommendation, optional test scores, personal statements and work experience can all play an important role in the admission process. All applicants are reviewed according to these criteria without discrimination on the basis of race, age, color, creed, national or ethnic origins, marital or financial status, disability, gender or sexual orientation.
When to Apply for Admission
Graduate and doctoral studies at Gonzaga have distinct application deadlines and start terms. Please refer to specific links in the “How to Apply for Admission” table below to view that detailed information.
All applicants seeking financial aid should also complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students must complete the FAFSA annually to be eligible. This form can be accessed online at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa. Gonzaga's FAFSA code is 003778. Non-native English-speaking students must present evidence of their ability to perform in graduate studies at Gonzaga, including proof of English proficiency. English proficiency may be shown by TOEFL or IELTS exam scores. Check requirements on Gonzaga's website for the appropriate test score by graduate program. If you do not meet the English proficiency requirements listed above, but believe your English to be equivalent to these level for graduate students at Gonzaga University, due to work, education, or language immersion experience, please contact your Admissions Specialist at gradadmissions@gonzaga.edu.
The following applicants are not required to submit English test scores or any other additional proof of English proficiency:
Students from the following English-speaking countries are automatically exempt from any English proficiency requirement: Australia, Botswana, Canada (except Quebec), Ghana, Ireland, Kenya, New Zealand, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, United Kingdom, and any English-speaking Caribbean country (Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Grenada, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago)
In lieu of test scores, Gonzaga University will accept verification of English language proficiency from our English Language Center.
International Transcript Evaluation:
All international students applying directly to a Gonzaga University graduate program must have each foreign transcript evaluated through a NACES approved, third-party evaluator. This must include the required course-by-course evaluation of all university degrees earned outside of the United States.
The Evaluation Company (TEC), formerly SpanTran, or Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) are our recommended agencies for obtaining this evaluation, but we will also accept evaluations from other approved third-party evaluators such as World Education Services (WES).
Evidence of Financial Ability
As required by U.S. federal regulations, prospective F-1 international students must have the financial resources to live and study in the United States. This includes being able to cover the cost of tuition, books, living expenses and travel. Gonzaga’s Designated school officials (DSOs) must collect evidence of the student’s financial ability before issuing a Form I-20, “Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status.” Acceptable evidence of financial ability includes but is not limited to:
- Family bank statements.
- Documentation from a sponsor.
- Scholarship letters.
International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS): Gonzaga’s International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) offers centralized support to visiting scholars and student visa holders at all educational levels. ISSS services include F-1 and J-1 visa advising, how to maintain immigration status, community building, cultural adaptation, and assistance with processes such as tax filing software, insurance, driver’s license and Social Security Number application.
